mip is back

Hello dear readers. At long last, I have finally returned to blogging. Life was incredibly busy with a number of personal life events and so tech blogging took a temporary hiatus.

Does that mean I was away from my usual use of technology? Not a chance! As I sit here this morning blogging in a Starbucks from my 3G iPhone, I have a dozen topics that I will slowly ease into this week.

It is great to be back! I look forward to reconnecting with you again in the coming days and weeks.

Ok...I'm Back...Where Have I Been?

Hello dear readers.  Did you miss me?  I have been absent but with good reasons.  Firstly, I went away in March, took my wife off to Florence for a week.  While I was away I decided that I needed to make a big push on some work I was doing for my next book and I began something I nicknamed 300 pages in 30 days.  You can see the outcome of that non-technical writing here.  It took me longer than 30 days...but I produced way more than 300 pages.  LOL.  During that time, I was spending my early hours and late hours working on those projects, and so the blog was put on hold.  Couple that push with some super busy times at work and time away from the blog flew by.  I missed it.  But now I'm back and I have a long list of things I will now be writing about:  my Facebook experiment and my thoughts on where it is going, updates on Apple Macs finding their way into the enterprise (a case study), new mobile apps I've been playing with, the latest being YahooGo and lastly, a detailed review of iWork. 

So thanks for patiently waiting for me to come back to the blog.  I look forward on getting back into tech mode.  Podcasts will resume this upcoming Wednesday.

New Way To Reach Me

Hi all.   Well, I finally got around to setting up an email address specifically for mip's scan rather than using one of my other email addresses.  If you want to reach me regarding items on mip's scan (tech you want me to look at, questions, feedback, ideas for posts, etc.) then you can now email me at mip@mipsscan.com and I'll be sure to see it!

This also gives me a chance to test Google Apps for business, as I'm using them as the back-end (i.e., I mapped my MX records for email to their service...so far so good).

Whew...I'm Back...Anything Going On?

Ha.  Of course there is.  Wow!  Time sure does fly.

Sorry I've been away.  A couple of realities:

1. super busy before the Christmas holidays with work and family coming in before the break
2. super busy with my children who were attending parties, putting on Christmas concerts and my oldest who entered her art portfolio in an art competition and took a silver medal home (congrats!!  see article here and photo here (she is shortest/youngest and in front on the left)
3. crazy busy (but ultra-enjoyable) during the holidays where I completely unplugged, except for the utilization of our Wii and some other key technologies that proved to be awesome over the holidays (more on this in an upcoming post)
4. came back to work after the new year (Happy 2007 everyone) and found somehow, even more things that were waiting to keep me very busy
5. I came to realize that blogging and podcasting are a lot like working out....as soon as your schedule gets messed up, it is so hard to get back into it
6. i don't have the luxury of having a "ghost guest writer" write my posts like some other blogs do ;-)
7. I finally have risen extra early this morning, gone out for a run and started to write and look over partial posts I've been working on

So stay tuned, I've completed 6 posts all of which are timed to begin coming out starting today (great feature in Typepad).  Some of the things you'll read about:  the Wii and how it was received in our household over the holidays, VoiP, the Apple iPhone (could I be any happier!!!!!!!!), 2007 IT trends for IT departments, and technology meets art.

So nice to be back everyone!  Did you miss me?

Happy 10th Anniversary

I've been away this week.  Why?
My wife and I are taking a vacation to celebrate 10 years of marriage.
So this post is dedicated to her on this special day.

A Late Night Post

Often life outside of our interests and passions needs tending to.  It's been quiet here on mip's scan because I've been busy and somewhat preoccupied.  It's 2:25am Wednesday morning (late for even me) and I couldn't sleep and thought I'd post.  I'm away for the next day or two visiting my dad who is going to undergo some serious surgery, so as you can appreciate, my mind is not much on tech. 

There will be a mid-week update though, but it'll be out later this evening after spending a day at the hospital.  It may be brief but it will be there.
