Outsourcing Email

People scoffed at the idea that Google's business class outsourced email offering would make an in-roads.  Even I knew there would be challenges, with people raising concerns of security, privacy and reliability. 

So it is nice to read that there are organizations making this move.  Nicer still, to see a Canadian university take the plunge.  As reported by the CBC

Lakehead University is outsourcing its e-mail — to Google.

Students, staff and faculty at the university in Thunder Bay, Ont., saw their e-mail storage space jump more than 17-fold when they began accessing their "@lakeheadu.ca" e-mail addresses via an application similar to Google's Gmail two weeks ago.

This is great.  It is a perfect environment to implement the business grade gmail and at no cost to the university.  Kudos to Lakehead's CIO Shahzad Jafri for making the bold, yet value adding step to leveraging what I think is a tremendous email offering.  To read the complete article, just click here.
