A Cellphone Ring That Adults Can't Hear

In yesterday's podcast I spoke about a story where kids have been using a cell phone ring tone that is at a frequency that they can hear and many adults cannot hear.  I've gotten a dozen emails and a comment asking for the ring tone.

Here is a link to the story.
And below is a link to the ring tone.

Let me know if you could hear it or not.

I played it on my computer through a headset and could not hear a thing. Wild.

I could hear it but most adults will have difficulty hearing it because it is so high in frequency (Hz).

The reason for this is because by the time you are over 30, you have been exposed to plenty of noise and the hair cells that are responsbile for picking up high frequencies may have been damaged.

The hair cells responsible for lower frequencies are behind the these high Hz hair cells so it takes awhile for them to be damaged. Therefore as we age, the high frequencies go first and then the lower frequencies. Ever notice how older people say that young people mumble? Its because they can't hear the high Hz consonants but they can hear vowels!

I guess people around the kids can still tell a phone is ringing by all the dogs barking in the area !

Not if the dogs are over 30 dog years (4 people years) - LOL

My dog has some great selective hearing when he is napping.

Very interesting. I tried it here in my office and couldn't hear it. I definitely won't tell my teenagers about this! Ha ha.

my mom could not hear a sound...hella crazy

Hey Im 36 years old and It was autibly uncomfortable to listen to........But then again I can hear the high pitch whine of a CRT monitor when powered up.......

OMG!!!! I can't belive this actually works!!! My mom couldn't hear it but I could!!! OMG OMG OMG it's soooo wierd!!
